How much do fathers love their children? Enough to fly them to school in a plane? Enough to dig for the biggest dinosaur the world has ever known? From exploring dark caves to leading a marching band to even being a space alien, a father's love is unconditional, and he will do anything to make sure all of his child's dreams come true.

The dynamic duo of Sherry North and Marcellus Hall team up once again to treat parents and children to a story that celebrates affection with imagination. Because I Am Your Daddy is a great read-aloud book at storytime or a soothing book at bedtime, and an ideal gift for new fathers on Father's Day.

From the creators of Because You Are My Baby
comes another ingenuous expression of love, with a father explaining that he'd do anything for his daughter. Hall's airy, retro-flavored watercolors depict the father's artfully exaggerated roles: “If I were a scientist, we would dig up ancient bones/ And find the biggest dinosaur the world has ever known.” Other activities include surfing an inky blue wave and enjoying a game of “cosmic bowling” aboard a spaceship. A stylish depiction of fatherly devotion. Ages 3–8.

PreS-Gr 2-The team who created "Because You Are My Baby" (Abrams, 2008), about the different careers a mother could pursue and how she would use them to benefit her baby, continues that same concept here. The different professions the father tries range from famous (Hollywood director and baseball player) to adventurous (explorer and ranger) to out of this worldliterally. North uses simple "if]then" structured rhymes that beg to be read aloud. "If I were a librarian, we could venture anywhere./Wherever we decide to go, a book would take us there." The father, his daughter, and her doll ride a book like a magic carpet. Hall again creates fun-filled, full-page watercolor cartoon illustrations in the same retro style as the first book. This selection is a perfect Father's Day pick."Samantha Larsen Hastings, West Jordan Public Library, UT"

Preschool In this companion to Because You Are My Baby (2008), written in a mothers loving voice, it is Daddy who makes a preschoolers dreams come true. Playful rhyme and uncluttered watercolor spreads depict the two together in exciting, invented scenarios: Daddy as a pilot who flies his daughter to school and impresses all of her friends; Daddy as an inventor who makes a high-tech tree house. The loving bond between parent and child is at the core of the story, and the joy is as much in the hugs as in the imaginative play.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2010, American Library Association.)

In uneven rhyming couplets, a dad assures his daughter of just how much he would do for her: "If I were a carpenter, / I would use my saw and drill / To build two wooden go-karts for racing down the hill." The pictures have a retro patina but some spunk as well; however, nothing distinguishes this latest entry in the which-book-loves-you-more sweepstakes.
